Airbnb and gentrification in New York

Airbnb has been around for a few years now and even though it might not seem so, I do believe it perfectly fits the model of a ‘smart city’.

While reflecting on what ‘urban intelligence’ means for us, we haven’t really explored models like Airbnb (at least from a housing perspective), but it is undeniable that their concept very much relies on both technology and a ‘new’ understanding of what a city should provide. In that sense, I wanted to share this fascinating article on Airbnb and gentrification in New York. Even though the topic has been discussed several times, the authors of the article include new maps that can help us understand what are the risks/impact both now and in the future as the Airbnb model continues to grow in NYC.
